Metallic & Decorative Floor Coatings
When the floor is meant to be seen rather than just survived, the finish system matters as much as the protection underneath.
Finish Options
Decorative flake (chip) systems. Vinyl flakes broadcast into the wet base coat, then sealed under a clear topcoat. This is the most popular garage finish and for good reason: it hides minor slab imperfections, adds slip resistance through surface texture, and comes in blends that can be matched to a home's color scheme. Durable and cost-effective.
Quartz systems. Colored quartz aggregate rather than vinyl flake. Heavier, more textured, more slip-resistant, and considerably more durable — common in commercial and high-traffic residential applications where appearance and toughness both matter.
Metallic epoxy. A pigmented metallic base manipulated during application to create depth, movement, and marble-like or reflective effects. Every floor is genuinely one-off — the pattern can't be exactly repeated. This is the premium finish, most often specified for showrooms, retail spaces, basements, and high-end garages.
Solid color. Clean, uniform, and the most economical. Still fully protective — the aesthetic is just simpler.
Choosing Between Them
Slip resistance rises with surface texture, so flake and quartz outperform smooth metallic and solid systems in wet areas. Hiding slab imperfections also favors flake and quartz. Metallic delivers the most visual impact but shows dust and surface scratches more readily, making it better suited to a showroom or finished basement than a working garage.
